WELCOME TO ST. JOHN XXIII LABYRINTH

The Priory Labyrinth was initiated and designed by the Weston Priory Oblates and friends who maintain it. Visitors to the Priory are invited to practice the prayer of a quiet meditation walk on the Labyrinth in the field adjacent to the Barn Chapel.

Walking the Labyrinth

The Labyrinth is not a maze. It is not a puzzle to solve—rather, a mystery to enter! There are no tricks to it and no dead ends. It has a single circuitous path that winds its way to the center. The person walking it uses the same path to return from the center and the entrance becomes the exit.

There are neither set rules nor a method
for the Labyrinth walk

Use the Labyrinth in a way that meets your hopes while being respectful of others.

To prepare, it is well to sit quietly a few moments before walking the Labyrinth. Some people come with questions, others come to slow down from a busy life. Some come to find strength to take the next step. Some come in time of grief and loss. Walking the labyrinth is a prayer, a walking meditation. It can be a crucible of change, of growth, of healing.

The paths are narrow, so if you wish to pass a fellow walker, do so at one of the many wider turns. Those places are also a good place to raise the eyes and glimpse the sky.

Walking in prayerful silence with eyes on the earth, following the path, accepting the twists and turns, persevering to find the center, the deeper meaning of the journey of your personal/communal life, becomes an adventure, discovery and opportunity.

Silence and respect for the privacy of others is a valued gift.

At the heart and center of the Labyrinth walk is a peaceful, quiet circle for rest—a kind of 'promised land'!

The bench at the entrance may be used either at the beginning or the end of the walk.
