Ten Days of Faith & Hospitality
Since 1976, when the Benedictine monks of Weston Priory were introduced to the Mexican Benedictine sisters, Misioneras Guadalupanas de Cristo Rey, a deep bond of friendship has developed between the two communities.
On their frequent trips to Mexico, the brothers of the Weston Priory experienced the warm hospitality and the vital faith of the Mexican people in the prayerful context of the sisters' dedicated work with the poor in many different parts of Mexico.
For the Weston community, this became a new kind of retreat, an opportunity to encounter Jesus in his poor, his suffering, and his faithful brothers and sisters. All this brought the Gospel alive in a new and exciting way.
Because of the value of this experience in the life of the Benedictine monks, they wished to extend such an opportunity to others, especially persons from the United States and Canada. And so, the Guadalupe Center was established as a joint effort of the Mexican sisters and the Weston brothers.
A community of 10 Mexican Benedictine sisters provides hospitality at the Guadalupe Center, which accommodates up to 20 persons. In the context of prayer, discussion, recreation, and reflection, the sisters seek to introduce participants to the present-day reality of the Mexican People and to give some understanding of life and faith lived in Latin America.
